Research Opportunities

Building on the foundation of UC Merced having the highest proportion of undergraduates involved in research of any UC campus, competitive summer and academic research opportunities will be offered each year to up to three students with UC Merced faculty members, in collaboration with the Center of Excellence on the Study of Health Disparities.

Student research participation enables undergraduate students to extend their classroom learning while addressing cutting-edge research problems in collaboration with faculty researchers.

The Undergraduate Pre-health Scholars Research program allows you to begin your research during the summer and continue throughout the academic year.

The summer program is intensive — you are generally expected to commit full-time to the research program without taking summer classes or working other jobs.

Research during the academic year is part-time, with work hours arranged around your class schedule.

Doing research during the school year requires time management, and progress can be frustratingly slow. However, school-year research can allow you to work long-term on a single project and is more likely to lead to senior thesis projects, publications and opportunities to attend professional meetings, as well as integration into research groups.

In order to participate in the Undergraduate Pre-Health Scholars Research Program, students must complete the application.
